2007 WIDEX Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year

Frederick MD, USA - Rajeev BAGGA of Great Britain and Natalia DEEVA of Belarus have been selected as the 2007 WIDEX Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year by the member of International Committee of Sports for the Deaf Selections Commission through electronic ballot, by earning 81 and 85 points respectively.

Rajeev BAGGA, born 6 APR 1967, won the men’s singles once again at the recent World Deaf Badminton Championship in Germany. He has not lost his singles match since 1989 when he first emerged in the official competition. He is also a very unselfish player and he even accepted many bad calls by umpires without challenge. He often show true sportsmanship also with excellent personality in and out of court.

Natalia DEEVA, born 29 DEC 1979, her achievements include the recent World Deaf Swimming Championships in Taipei where she broke three World Records and won three Gold medals.

  • 50m breaststroke (heat) - 34.97 broke world record
  • 50m breaststroke (final) - 34.91 broke world record and won Gold medal
  • 4x100 medley - 4:38.00 broke world record and won Gold medal
  • 100m breaststroke - 1:17.75 won Gold medal
